Egyptian American Relations: A Shared Quest for Peace and Prosperity in the Middle East
Ambassador M. Nabil Fahmy
Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United States
Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United States since October 1999,
is a career diplomat who has played an active role in the numerous efforts to bring peace to the Middle East,
as well as in international and regional disarmament affairs. Ambassador Fahmy has also served as Egypt's
Ambassador to Japan from September 1997 to August 1999. Prior to that, he was the Political Advisor to the
Foreign Minister from August 1993 to September 1997. Over the years, he has been a Senior Disarmament Official
and a member of the Egyptian Mission to the United Nations (Disarmament and Political Affairs) in Geneva and
New York. He has also served as Advisor in the Cabinet of the Vice President of Egypt. Ambassador Fahmy headed
the Egyptian delegation to the Middle East Peace Process Steering Committee in 1993. He is a member of the UN
Secretary General's Advisory Board of Disarmament Matters and was its chairman in 2001. Ambassador Fahmy
received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics/Mathematics in 1974 and his Master of Arts in Management
in 1976, both from the American University in Cairo.
