Jeffrey Laurenti

Jeffrey Laurenti serves as a senior advisor to the United Nations Foundation and has served as Deputy Director of the United Nations and Global Security initiative which the foundation established with backing from The Century Foundation. The foundation supports the debate on international security of the High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges, and Changes commissioned by the United Nations Secretary. Mr. Laurenti's areas of expertise include: international security, international law and multilateral institutions. He served as Executive Director of Policy Studies at the United Nations Association of the United States until 2003 and currently serves on the Association's Board of Directors, and is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Previously, Mr. Laruenti served as Senior Issues Advisor to the Mondale/Ferraro campaign and from 1978 to 1984 was Executive Director of the New Jersey Senate and also served as Program Officer for The Century Foundation, then the Twentieth Century Fund.

Mr. Laurenti is the author of numerous monographs on subjects ranging from international peace and security, terrorism, and international narcotics policy. He has authored articles for The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, New York Newsday, and the Los Angeles Times and international policy journals. Some of his publications include: "The Preparedness Gap on U.N. Peacekeeping, and The United Nations and Economic Sanctions" (co-author); "Combating Terrorism: Does the U.N. Matter" and "Breaking the Drug Chain."

Mr. Laurenti graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude in government from Harvard University and earned his Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton University Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He speaks Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese.
