57th Program Year - Sixth MeetingMarch 1, 2006Albuquerque Petroleum ClubInter-American Relations After Mar Del PlataIsaac Cohen currently serves as President and CEO of Inverway LLC, a Washington, D.C. based company dedicated to business development in the Western Hemisphere. Mr. Cohen spent twenty-four years with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). From 1974 to 1985 he served at ECLAC's Mexico Office as Economic Affairs Officer in charge of economic integration in Central America. From 1985 until 1998, he served as Director of ECLAC's Washington Office. He served as Visiting Lecturer on economic and business prospects in the Western Hemisphere, at American, Georgetown and George Washington universities; at the U.S. Army War College, the National Defense University, the Inter-American Defense College, and the U.S. State Department Foreign Service Institute; at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chambers of Commerce of Colombia and El Salvador; at the Committees of Foreign Relations of Boise, Idaho; Casper, Wyoming; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis Missouri; and at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterry, Mexico and the Universidad Interamericana of Puerto Rico. Mr. Cohen also served as a weekly commentator on economic affairs for CNN, TV and radio, from Washington D.C. He has served as advisor to banks, advisor on trade agreement negotiations and advisor to the Ministry of Finance in Guatamala. Mr. Cohen's educational background includes a BA in Law and Social Sciences from the Universidad de San Carlos, Guatemala and a PhD in Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International Studies from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and French. |
